In a major joint operation on Sunday, the Delhi Police and Gujarat Police seized 518 kilograms of cocaine, valued at ₹5,000 crore, from Ankleshwar, Gujarat. The operation took place at Avkar Drugs Limited, where the large drug haul was discovered. This is the third significant drug seizure in just 11 days.
Just a few days earlier, on October 10, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell had uncovered 200 kilograms of cocaine worth ₹2,000 crore from a rented shop in West Delhi’s Ramesh Nagar. The drugs were concealed in snack packets labeled “Tasty Treat” and “Chatpata Mixture” inside cartons stored in a small shop.
On October 2, another large-scale operation resulted in the seizure of over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, with an estimated value of ₹5,620 crore, from a warehouse in Mahipalpur, South Delhi. Several individuals, including Tushar Goyal, Himanshu Kumar, Aurangzeb Siddiqui, and Bharat Kumar Jain, were arrested in connection with the drug racket, followed by further arrests from Amritsar and Chennai.
The continuous string of large drug busts raises serious concerns about drug trafficking in the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused Congress of involvement with the arrested suspects, further intensifying the political discourse. Shah criticized the alleged links between a drug kingpin and Congress, accusing the party of leading the youth of the country into the “dark world of drugs.”
These major drug seizures underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking as part of its “zero-tolerance” approach toward creating a “Drug-Free India.” Investigations are still underway, and more arrests are expected in connection with these large-scale operations.
