🚉 A Leap for Bihar: Patna’s First Metro Corridor Nears Completion
With over 90% of the construction work completed, the Patna Metro Rail Project is racing against time to meet its ambitious deadline. The stretch includes five major elevated stations:
- Malahi Pakri
- Khemnichak
- Bhoothnath
- Zero Mile
- ISBT
Officials confirmed that final touches are being applied, including installation of electric poles and tracks.
🏗️ Construction Milestones Achieved
- U-girders installed at Khemnichak
- Platform casting in progress at ISBT
- Purlin installation underway at Bhoothnath
- Depot at ISBT (76 acres) is nearly complete
The Baririya Chak depot includes:
- 2 workshop bays
- 3 inspection bays
- 8 stabling bays (for 32 three-coach trains)
- Auto-coach washing unit
- Auditorium, training school, canteen, control centre
- 2,500 KVA auxiliary substation
🏢 Commuter-Centric Station Design
Each station will have two levels:
- Concourse level: ticket counters, waiting areas, shops, food courts, accessibility features
- Platform level: boarding and deboarding areas
Khemnichak station will serve as an interchange hub between Corridor I and Corridor II, featuring three levels and dual platforms.
💰 Budget & Funding
The Patna Metro project is estimated at ₹13,925 crore, with funding from:
- 20% – Bihar State Government (excluding land)
- 20% – Central Government
- 60% – Loan from JICA
📢 Government’s Commitment
Urban Development Minister Jibesh Kumar stated:
“We are fully committed to providing modern, efficient, and green transport to the people of Bihar.”
Trial runs are expected to begin by mid-July 2025 with commercial operations starting on or before Independence Day.
