19th Divya Kala Mela Kicks Off in Visakhapatnam: Honoring the Talents of Divyang Artisans

RR Team, September 19, 2024September 19, 2024

The 19th edition of the Divya Kala Mela was officially launched in Visakhapatnam, with the Hon. Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri S. Abdul Nazeer, inaugurating the event. The occasion saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, and MPs Shri M. Shribharat and Shri G. Babu Rao.

During the opening ceremony, ₹40 lakh in concessional loans were distributed to 10 Divyang beneficiaries under the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) schemes. Additionally, CSR partners like HPCL, GAIL India Ltd, IOCL, and Coromandel India Ltd contributed by distributing assistive devices, further supporting Divyangjan in their entrepreneurial and socio-economic endeavors.

Governor S. Abdul Nazeer highlighted the significance of the Mela, describing it as a vital platform that not only empowers Divyang entrepreneurs but also promotes inclusivity and brings society together. “This event showcases the remarkable talents of Divyang artisans on a national stage, fostering a sense of community and empowerment,” he said.

Dr. Virendra Kumar echoed these sentiments, stating, “The Divya Kala Mela is a reflection of the immense potential of Divyangjan. This platform allows them to display their skills and creativity, furthering their economic independence and contributing to the country’s inclusive growth.”

The 11-day Mela features an array of high-quality products crafted by nearly 100 Divyang artisans from 20 states and union territories. These include handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery, and packaged foods, all promoting the government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative while boosting financial independence for Divyang artisans.

The event, which runs daily from 11 AM to 9 PM, will also host cultural performances by Divyang artists and food stalls serving regional specialties from across India. The fair is not only a celebration of creativity but also a platform to support the entrepreneurial dreams of Divyangjan.

Dr. Virendra Kumar took the opportunity to brief the media on the 100-day achievements of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, reinforcing the ministry’s dedication to empowering Divyangjan. The event concluded with attendees participating in a Swachhata Pledge, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and community responsibility.
