Ayodhya! Airport Opens in January, Not December
While the anticipation for Ayodhya’s Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport is high, the official opening date is getting a slight rescheduling. Instead of December 15, domestic flights will now take off in January 2024.
Even with the operational license in hand, airlines need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before taking a flight. This process, along with route planning and ticket booking, takes approximately 15-20 days. So, despite the eager wait, December will only see the airport’s official inauguration, not the roar of departing jets.
Airport Project Manager Rajeev Kulshrestha explains, “All technical checks will be completed before December 15. However, airlines need time for NOCs and other formalities. Only Indigo has submitted a proposal so far, and the final destinations are still under discussion.”
The good news? January promises to usher in the era of Ayodhya’s air travel! Domestic flights will finally take to the skies, connecting the holy city to the rest of India. However, those dreaming of international flights will need to wait a little longer.
Kulshrestha clarifies, “Building a separate 50,000 sq. m. terminal for international operations will take another 2-2.5 years. This includes extending the runway, constructing new terminals, and ensuring everything meets international standards. Tendering for this will begin in June 2024.”
