BJP’s 2024 Game: CM Selection in Key States Delayed for Strategic Reasons
Despite securing a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections of five states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has yet to announce the names of new Chief Ministers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. While the party’s high command has remained tight-lipped, political analysts believe this delay is strategically motivated, with an eye on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Analysts suggest the BJP is aiming to appoint individuals as Chief Ministers who hold sway over the youth and OBC communities, key demographics for electoral success. This could lead to the party replacing current Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Raman Singh with fresh faces, potentially paving the way for a more dynamic leadership.
Media reports have named various contenders for the Chief Minister posts across the three states. In Rajasthan, Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, are seen as potential candidates. Madhya Pradesh has witnessed speculation surrounding Jyotiraditya Scindia, Narendra Singh Tomar, and Pralhad Patel. Meanwhile, Vishnudev Sai, Renuka Singh, OP Chaudhary, and Arun Sao are vying for the top position in Chhattisgarh.
Despite these speculations, the BJP’s central leadership has yet to provide any definitive information. This deliberate delay signifies their meticulous planning and intention to make a calculated move, keeping in mind the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party is likely to carefully assess all options and choose individuals who can not only ensure stable governance but also contribute significantly to the national campaign.
In the recently held assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a landslide victory in three states. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP won a clear majority with 163 seats, while the Congress was reduced to 66 seats. In Rajasthan, BJP won 115 seats, while Congress managed to win 69 seats. In Chhattisgarh, BJP won 54 seats, while Congress was reduced to 35 seats.
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP won power for the second consecutive time. The party defeated Congress by 97 seats. This is BJP’s biggest victory in Madhya Pradesh. In Rajasthan, the BJP won power after 10 years by defeating the Congress. The party defeated Congress by 30 seats. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP defeated the Congress by 19 seats. This is BJP’s first victory in Chhattisgarh.
This victory of the BJP is being attributed to many factors. These include:
Popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Public welfare schemes of the central government
Strong organization of BJP
weak credibility of congress
