Congress leaders ponder attending Ram Mandir consecration
With the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony in Ayodhya just weeks away, the attendance of prominent figures like Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge remains undecided. The party confirmed receiving invitations for both leaders but stated its decision would be made “at the appropriate time.”
The ceremony, scheduled for January 22, promises to be a momentous occasion, drawing prominent guests like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Bollywood stars Madhuri Dixit and Amitabh Bachchan. It will mark the installation of the idol of Ram Lalla in the newly constructed temple.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor clarified his stance despite not receiving an official invitation. Expressing his desire to visit the Ram Mandir in the future, Tharoor emphasises that such a visit should not be politicised. He distinguishes between his faith and the political landscape surrounding the event. Ramesh added that the party will take a decision on their attendance at “an appropriate time” and communicate it accordingly. This leaves much anticipation hanging in the air, as both leaders’ presence would hold significant political weight in the context of the event.
Tharoor Awaits Invitation, Plans Post-Election Ayodhya Visit
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor hasn’t received a formal invitation to the Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya, scheduled for January 22nd. He clarified, “As far as I am concerned, I haven’t been invited, so I don’t have to make the decision.”
However, Tharoor expressed his desire to visit the Ram Mandir in the future. He clarified his intention to visit the shrine in Uttar Pradesh “after the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections,” signifying a distinction between personal faith and the current political climate.
