Originally planned to last 15 days, the winter break will now begin on January 1 and end on January 6, 2024. This decision follows the earlier school shutdown from November 9 to November 18, 2023, due to high pollution levels in the city. The Directorate of Education decided to adjust the winter holidays by shortening the January break to make up for the lost days during the November closure.
The Directorate has issued a circular directing all schools to share this information with teachers, non-teaching staff, students, and parents to ensure awareness of the revised winter break schedule.
In other regions, due to severe weather conditions, schools in Chennai remain closed today because of flooding caused by Cyclone Michaung. Similarly, in Kashmir, schools have already begun their winter break, with closures based on regional climate conditions.
