Michong Leaves Jharkhand Shivering, Day Temperatures Plummet
Impact Continues, Rainfall Expected to Ease by Friday
Cyclone Michong’s lingering effects continue to disrupt life in Jharkhand, bringing intermittent rain and plunging temperatures across the state. The Meteorological Department predicts some relief by Friday, with the day becoming clearer and the cyclone’s influence waning. Due to Manchong, a huge drop in the maximum temperature has been recorded in all the districts including Ranchi, and Jamshedpur. The maximum temperature of almost all the districts has gone down by 5-7 degrees.
Unprecedented Cold Grips Jharkhand
All districts in Jharkhand experienced a significant drop in maximum temperatures. Ranchi shivered under 18.4°C, a stark 6.8°C below normal. Jamshedpur and Daltonganj also witnessed a chilling decline, recording 23.2°C and 20.6°C respectively, both below their usual averages.
Weather Woes Expected to Ease Soon
Meteorological officials in Ranchi offer a glimmer of hope. Abhishek Anand, head of the Ranchi Meteorological Center, expects the drop in daytime temperatures to persist for another 24 hours. However, he anticipates a gradual rise after Friday as the cyclone weakens.
Life Disrupted by Power Cuts and Traffic Jams
Heavy downpours and strong winds wreaked havoc in several parts of the state. Residents in Ranchi endured power outages and battled traffic congestion on numerous roads. The unpredictable weather forced many street vendors to stay indoors, leaving streets deserted.
Dhanbad and Jamshedpur Also Affected
The monsoon fury extended its reach to Dhanbad and Jamshedpur, bringing heavy rain that continues intermittently in some areas. These cities also witnessed deserted streets, with significant activity only during office hours.
Further Temperature Drop Expected
As the clouds clear, meteorologists predict a further decline in minimum temperatures across Jharkhand, with potential drops of 2-3°C.
Overall Impact on Jharkhand
Cyclone Michong’s impact has been widespread, with most districts experiencing a significant drop in maximum temperatures. While the immediate future holds continued cold and intermittent rain, relief is expected by Friday as the cyclone’s influence diminishes.
