Congress starts its campaign for 2024 elections, criticizes Modi government
Congress on Thursday launched its campaign for the 2024 parliamentary elections, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
Addressing a massive public meeting in Nagpur, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said Modi is a leader who prefers to inaugurate a diamond house in Gujarat rather than visit conflict-torn Manipur. He said that Modi is trying to suppress the opposition voice by suspending opposition MPs in Parliament.
Kharge announced that Congress will implement the NYAY scheme if it comes to power in 2024. Under this scheme, every poor family will get Rs 72,000 every year.
Addressing the same meeting, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that the Modi government was endangering democracy. He said that the Modi government has taken control of every institution which protects the freedom of the people.
Rahul said the Modi government has failed to solve real problems like unemployment and high prices. He said that Modi government is attacking farmers and youth.
The Congress in its public meeting highlighted the dangers of democracy and referred to the advent of “dictatorship”.
Youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar said that Congress is ready to protect the Constitution and protect the freedom of the people. He said Congress is ready to solve real problems like unemployment and high prices.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar said that the doors of the south have been closed for the BJP and the same will happen in other places too.
A large crowd participated in the public meeting of Congress in Nagpur. However, the Congress will have to sharpen its tools as the same old narrative of threat to democracy may not yield the desired political results. Both Kharge and Rahul failed to offer comprehensive criticism of Modi’s 10-year rule, while touching on a number of issues and flagging the dangers of another term for Modi.
