From Student Activism to Deputy CM: Premchand Bairwa’s Political Ascent
Premchand Bairwa, a Dalit leader from Rajasthan’s Dudu constituency, has embarked on a remarkable political journey, culminating in his recent appointment as Deputy Chief Minister. His story is one of dedication, perseverance, and breaking barriers.
Born in 1974 and holding a PhD from Rajasthan University, Bairwa’s political aspirations began with student activism. He joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), laying the foundation for his political career. In 2000, he took his first electoral step, winning the Zilla Parishad member election from Dudu’s Ward 15. This marked the beginning of his ascent within the BJP’s organizational ranks, including holding the position of SC Morcha District President.
Bairwa’s political breakthrough came in 2013 when he contested the Dudu assembly seat and defeated Congress candidate Hazari Lal Nagar by a significant margin of 33,720 votes. This victory cemented his position as a rising star within the BJP. However, he faced a setback in 2018, losing the Dudu seat to the Congress.
Undeterred, Bairwa bounced back in the 2023 elections, reclaiming the Dudu seat by defeating Congress candidate Babulal Nagar. This victory paved the way for his historic appointment as Deputy Chief Minister, becoming the first Dalit leader to hold this position in Rajasthan.
