A fierce, neck-and-neck battle is anticipated in the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections, according to Congress leader Raghu Sharma’s response to the exit polls released last Thursday. Sharma stated that no election is ever one-sided, and this time too, it will be a closely contested fight. He pointed out that the BJP had remained inactive throughout the past five years, lacking a defined leader. Several BJP leaders are vying for the Chief Ministerial position, but none of them have visible support. In contrast, Congress has earned the public’s vote due to its excellent schemes and accomplishments.
Raghu Sharma explained that the decision regarding the Chief Minister will be made after a meeting of the legislative party and consultation with the Congress High Command. He reiterated that the Congress tradition is to hold a legislative party meeting to gather opinions from the elected representatives, and based on that, the final decision is made by the High Command. Whether the current Chief Minister will be re-elected will be determined after the MLAs’ opinions are considered.
During an interview with a private news channel, Sharma expressed support for Sachin Pilot, a prominent Congress leader. Sharma praised Pilot for his leadership skills, stating that he has a bright future in the party due to his strong personality and his appeal across Rajasthan’s diverse communities. Sharma highlighted Pilot’s significant contributions to Congress’s victories, both as the state president in previous elections and as an MLA in the current contest.
These remarks have been seen as reassuring by Pilot’s supporters, with many interpreting them as an indication that the Congress High Command may assign Pilot an important role in the future.
Raghu Sharma also emphasized that the exit poll results are not definitive predictions but suggest a tough contest ahead. He stressed that the BJP is facing internal struggles, with several leaders competing for the Chief Minister position without strong support bases. In contrast, the Congress’s successful policies and public welfare programs have won the favor of the electorate.
Sharma confidently stated, “No election is ever one-sided. This time too, the election will be a neck-and-neck fight. The BJP lacks a clear leader, with several contenders fighting for the Chief Minister’s post, but none seem to have significant followings. In contrast, people have voted for Congress because of its excellent schemes and initiatives.”
Sharma further asserted that Congress is fully prepared for the elections and will put forth its utmost effort to secure victory. He reiterated that the final decision on the Chief Minister post will be made after the legislative party meeting, in line with the party’s long-standing tradition. The High Command will make the final call on the Chief Minister after considering the opinions of the elected representatives.
The stage is set for a highly competitive election in Rajasthan, with Congress leaders expressing confidence in their readiness to emerge victorious.
