Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has officially launched its campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by unveiling its first list of seven candidates. Among the prominent names is veteran politician Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is set to contest from Kannauj, a constituency he previously represented in Parliament.
The announcement was made in the presence of SP President Akhilesh Yadav and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, emphasizing the party’s strategy to consolidate its strongholds. Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence in the candidates, stating, “These leaders have strong connections with their constituencies. Together, we will challenge and defeat the BJP in 2024.”
The list includes a blend of experienced politicians and fresh faces:
- Shivpal Singh Yadav: Veteran leader and uncle of Akhilesh Yadav, contesting from Kannauj.
- Ramgopal Yadav: Senior leader aiming for another term from Firozabad.
- Akshay Yadav: Shivpal’s son, making his political debut from Firozabad.
- Lalji Prasad Verma: A seasoned Dalit leader contesting from Ambedkar Nagar.
- Avadhesh Prasad: Emerging leader fielded from Faizabad.
- Dharmendra Yadav: Prominent party face returning to the fray in Azamgarh.
- Ratan Yadav: A new voice representing Mirzapur.
Shivpal Yadav, returning to his political roots in Kannauj, expressed his resolve to serve the people once more. “With the support of the party and the trust of the people, I aim to work for Kannauj’s progress,” he said.
