I.N.D.I.A. Alliance: Not even two steps in seven months

I.N.D.I.A. The alliance was formed in 2023, aiming to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The alliance includes more than 28 opposition parties, including Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United.
The alliance has held several meetings in 2023, but no major decisions have been taken yet. No consensus has been reached on seat distribution in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
There are differences between the parties involved in the alliance. Mamata Banerjee wants the alliance leader to be elected through direct voting. Sharad Pawar wants that the leader should be elected by consensus among the parties. Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav want seats should be distributed on a regional basis.
Due to these differences, the alliance has not been able to move even two steps in seven months.
Challenges in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
If I.N.D.I.A. If the alliance does not take any major decision soon, it may have to face defeat from the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP has a strong organization and is united. I.N.D.I.A. There are differences among the parties involved in the alliance, due to which the alliance is becoming weak.
The third meeting of the Indie Coalition was held in Mumbai on 23 June 2023. A 13-member coordination committee was formed in this meeting. Apart from this, committees were also formed for media, publicity, social media, campaign and research.
In the last three months, a meeting of the Coordination Committee was held at Sharad Pawar’s residence in Delhi. Apart from this, no decision has been taken in the Indi alliance, which seems that the alliance is moving forward on the electoral track.
Before going to the Lok Sabha elections, the Indi alliance had not yet decided what new agenda it would bring to counter the vision of Narendra Modi. On the contrary, after every meeting, reports of leaders’ displeasure and leg-pulling are coming to the fore.
In the Delhi meeting, when Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee raised the name of Mallikarjun Kharge as the face of Dalit PM, the wrestling behind this also came to the fore. It is being discussed that this was a well-thought-out strategy to end the candidature of Nitish Kumar, Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar.
It is not decided when the next meeting will be held. At present, on January 30, the Grand Alliance will again show unity by holding a rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
