TMC made fun of BJP’s “Mission Bengal”, said- forget 35 seats, you won’t get even 3.5 seats.
Introduction:
Now only one year is left for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has mocked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s “Mission Bengal”.
With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has cast aspersions on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “Mission Bengal” strategy. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee expressed skepticism about the BJP’s target of winning 35 seats in the state, suggesting their actual performance might be significantly lower.
TMC statement:
TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said BJP’s “Mission Bengal” means “mission failure”. He said that BJP has set a target of winning 35 seats in West Bengal in the 2024 elections, but they will not get even 3.5 seats.
Banerjee’s argument: Banerjee said that BJP has been facing electoral defeat in West Bengal for the last two years. He said that BJP had won 77 seats in the 2021 assembly elections, which is less than the 18 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He said that BJP has tried to promote Hindu-Muslim riots and communalism in West Bengal. He said that this is increasing anger and resentment among the people in the state.
TMC’s Perspective:
Banerjee argued that the BJP’s recent electoral losses in West Bengal paint a different picture than their ambitious goals. He pointed to the party’s decline from 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to 77 seats in the 2021 assembly elections as evidence of their diminishing grip on the state’s electorate.
Focus on Campaign Strategies:
Instead of engaging in provocative claims, Banerjee highlighted concerns about the BJP’s campaign tactics. He expressed disapproval of tactics aimed at stoking communal tensions and religious divisions, stating that such approaches fuel public resentment and discord.
