In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh, the Congress won a big victory by defeating BJP. Congress won six seats, while BJP won five seats. But what will happen in the 2024 general elections? Will Congress strengthen its party or will BJP make a comeback? This question remains a topic of discussion in circles.
Will Congress dominate the opposition?
Jagdalpur: Congress is dominant as the opposition in Chhattisgarh. Congress has 11 assembly seats in the state, while BJP has only 16 assembly seats. Moreover, the Congress has control over a large number of local bodies in the state.
Congress had also challenged the BJP in the 2023 assembly elections. After winning 20 seats in the 2018 assembly elections, Congress won 11 seats this time. After winning 15 seats in the 2018 assembly elections, BJP won 16 seats this time.
Congress claims that it will maintain its victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections also. Congress has announced all its 11 Lok Sabha candidates. Many of these candidates are experienced leaders.
What is the mathematics of Congress?
The Congress also has two other seats in the Bastar region, Korba and Bijapur. The current MPs of Congress on these seats are Laxeshwar Baghel and Kawasi Laxman respectively.
If Deepak Baij is made the candidate again on Bastar seat, Congress has a chance of winning three seats in the region.
Possibility of BJP’s return
BJP has worked hard to strengthen its position in Chhattisgarh. BJP has organized many big programs in the state. BJP has also performed well in local body elections.
BJP claims that it will win all 11 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP says that their party is cadre-based and not based on dynasticism or individualism like Congress.
