AAP and Congress had positive discussions on allying to the Lok Sabha elections.
On Monday, the first discussion between AAP and Congress on allying the Lok Sabha elections was held. Leaders of both parties said the discussions were “positive and fruitful” and revolved around “cooperation”.
- AAP sources said the party had tried to make a strong case to stake claim to northeast Delhi and was in favour of contesting four of the seven parliamentary seats in the capital and leaving the rest for the Congress.
- Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said that a detailed discussion took place. “In the last 2-2.5 hours, various issues were discussed. This also included plans to contest elections on different seats. The discussions will continue and we will hold another meeting soon, after which the final form of seat-sharing will be decided,” Wasnik told reporters after the meeting.
- On behalf of AAP, National General Secretary (Organization) Sandeep Pathak and Delhi Ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj participated in the meeting. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are campaigning in Gujarat and the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha is not in the country. All three have been part of India Bloc meetings in the past.
AAP sources said the meeting was “positive and fruitful” and seat-sharing was not discussed in detail, but the clear decision to work together to streamline the alliance was reiterated.
