Congress ready to discuss candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha elections on January 19
The Congress party is set to accelerate the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. In this context, the party’s Lok Sabha election committee will meet in Bengaluru on January 19.
Meeting Agenda:
The following issues will be discussed in the meeting:
- Criteria for candidates in different states
- Qualification and experience of the candidates
- Electoral prospects of candidates
- Final decision on the list of probable candidates
Results of the meeting:
After the meeting, the committee will prepare a report for the selection of candidates. The report will be handed over to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge will submit the report to the party’s national executive, ultimately finalising the candidate list.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah refuses to let his son contest elections:
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has refused to contest the parliamentary elections of his son Dr. Yatindra. He has rejected the speculations levelled by Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha who alleged that the CM was trying to weaken him to pave the way for his son to contest for the seat.
The CM said that the party would give tickets based on the recommendations of MLAs and local leaders. “Neither Yatindra nor I will contest the elections,” he said.
Urban Development Minister Suresh BS (Byrathi) submitted his report:
Urban Development Minister Suresh BS (Byrathi), who has been appointed party observer for the Mysuru-Kodagu seat, has submitted his report. In the report, he has suggested some possible names for the Congress candidate from the Mysore-Kodagu seat. The party will consider these names and eventually finalize the list of candidates.
