Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress are continuously discussing seat sharing regarding the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. On Wednesday, leaders of both parties held an important meeting. Rajya Sabha MPs Ram Gopal Yadav and Javed Ali participated in this meeting from the SP side. On behalf of Congress, the party’s UP unit president Ajay Rai was present.
If sources are to be believed, seat distribution was discussed in the meeting. Keeping in mind the demand of SP, Congress has handed over the list of 20-28 seats to them. If party sources are to be believed, the list submitted by Congress to SP has been prepared based on the results of the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
It is noteworthy that in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Congress had won 21 seats in Uttar Pradesh. News is coming out that regarding seat distribution, Congress has claimed these 21 seats as well as the seats in those areas that are falling on the route of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Apart from this, Congress is continuously focusing on Muslim-dominated seats and Dalit vote bank Lok Sabha constituencies including Varanasi, Agra, Allahabad, Mathura, Meerut, Aligarh and Shahjahanpur. The party is trying its best to contest the elections on its selected seats in coordination with the SP.
If media sources are to be believed, Congress has also demanded a Lucknow seat from the SP during the meeting. However, it is believed that the talks between the leaders of both parties have not yet reached the final stage. Right now the equations of seats are being discussed.
If sources are to be believed, it is being claimed that Congress has wrested seats from SP from Moradabad as well as Bareilly, Firozabad, Dhaurahra, Kheri, Sultanpur, Unnao, Kanpur, Pratapgarh, Jhansi, Akbarpur, Faizabad, Barabanki, Shravasti, Bahraich, Dumariaganj, Have sought Gonda, Maharajganj and Kushinagar seats. In the year 2009, Congress candidates had won all these seats.
Another meeting between the two parties is likely to take place in the next week. The final decision on seat distribution is expected to be taken in this meeting.
