New Delhi, January 1, 2024: The Congress Party and the Samajwadi Party (SP) are set to begin discussions on seat sharing for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. While Congress leaders are hopeful of contesting on 15 seats, the final decision on the seat-sharing arrangement with SP is yet to be confirmed.
In a recent meeting of the Congress National Alliance Committee, it was decided that talks with allies of the India Alliance regarding seat distribution should take place during the first week of January. Representatives will be appointed to facilitate these discussions.
A senior Congress leader shared that talks with SP will commence soon, emphasizing the importance of unity among opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh to effectively challenge the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 Lok Sabha seats, is a crucial battleground in the 2024 elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 62 seats, while SP won 5 and Congress managed to secure just 1 seat. The upcoming seat-sharing discussions between Congress and SP are critical for the opposition’s strategy in the state.
