Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), a key member of the state’s ruling alliance, has made an ambitious claim, demanding to contest seven seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This includes all five Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved seats and two general seats, with the party awaiting Congress’s approval to move forward with the alliance.
JMM Working President Hemant Soren confirmed the party’s aspiration to contest seven seats while acknowledging ongoing discussions with Congress. However, Congress State President Rajesh Thakur, while recognizing JMM’s legitimate claim, emphasized the need for a balanced seat allocation within the alliance.
JMM’s focus is on the ST-reserved seats of Singhbhum, Khunti, Dumka, Lohardaga, and Rajmahal, along with the general seats of Jamshedpur and Giridih. While both Thakur and JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey acknowledged potential challenges, they expressed optimism about reaching an agreement within ten days. They reiterated that the “India Alliance” is the true contender in the upcoming elections.
According to media reports, JMM is aiming for all five ST-reserved seats in the state, in addition to claiming Jamshedpur and Giridih. Singhbhum, Khunti, Dumka, Lohardaga, and Rajmahal are the ST-reserved seats in Jharkhand.
Jharkhand Congress State President Rajesh Thakur stated that there will be no issue with seat-sharing and that the deal would be finalized within 10 days. Meanwhile, JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey emphasized that the parties in the India Alliance would leave no stone unturned to ensure victory, adding that it is not just JMM and Congress contesting the elections, but the entire India Alliance.
