Stones selected for Ram mandir: Ability to last for eternity
The stones specially selected for the construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya have been tested. Test results have shown that these stones are extremely strong and durable. These stones are considered capable of withstanding fire, water and other natural calamities.
The following are the main stones selected for the Ram mandir:
granite
Grey granite was used for the foundation of the mandir. The stone is at least 2,100 million years old and is obtained from carefully selected quarries in South India. Each block was subjected to modern scientific tests to determine hardness.
sandstone
Sandstone has been used for the upper structure of the mandir. This stone is at least 700-1,000 million years old and was obtained from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan. Sandstone is a favourite material because it is soft enough to carve but hard enough to withstand weathering such as wind erosion.
marble
Marble has been used in the sanctum sanctorum of the mandir. This stone is at least 1,450 million years old and has been obtained from the famous mines of Makrana, Rajasthan.
testing
All these stones were tested for density, porosity, compressive strength, structural strength, tensile strength, water absorption and modulus of rupture. The carved pillars were also subjected to non-destructive testing (NDT).
Using these stones for the construction of the Ram mandir will make the walls, pillars and other structural elements of the mandir strong and durable. This will keep the mandir safe for a long time.
