A new dawn is breaking for disability rights in India as the Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment prepares to officially unveil an array of state-of-the-art rehabilitation facilities across the country. This landmark initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, represents a concrete step towards realizing the government’s vision of a truly inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are empowered to reach their full potential.
At the heart of these advancements lies the Composite Regional Centre in Davangere, Karnataka. Established under NIEPID, Secunderabad, this pioneering centre serves as a beacon of hope for individuals with diverse disabilities. Offering comprehensive services for all 21 recognized types of disabilities within a fully accessible environment creates a space where individuals can access the support and resources they need to thrive.
Moving beyond physical structures, the initiative also unveils the modern and well-equipped Composite Regional Centre buildings in Gorakhpur and Rajnandgaon. Constructed by NIEPVD, Dehradun, and NIEPID, Secunderabad, respectively, these facilities symbolize the government’s commitment to progress. Packed with modern amenities and accessibility features, they ensure inclusivity and foster a welcoming environment for rehabilitation efforts.
Recognizing the importance of a nurturing environment for learning and development, the initiative includes the inauguration of new hostels at CRC Patna and CRC Guwahati. These facilities, established under NILD, Kolkata, and SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, respectively, address a critical need by providing comfortable and accessible accommodation for students pursuing rehabilitation education. This fosters a supportive learning ecosystem that empowers individuals with disabilities to pursue their academic goals.
Beyond academic pursuits, the initiative also prioritizes skilling and vocational training. The newly constructed Vocational Training Centre in Cuttack, housed at SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, embodies this vision. By offering skill training courses aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), the centre equips individuals with disabilities with the skills and qualifications they need to secure meaningful careers and achieve greater independence.
Furthermore, the initiative marks the beginning of a new era in holistic care with the stone-laying ceremony for a Hydrotherapy Unit in Secunderabad. This collaborative effort between The Hans Foundation and NIEPID focuses on promoting high-quality therapeutic intervention for individuals with various disabilities. The Hydrotherapy Unit promises to play a crucial role in enhancing their well-being, aiding in recovery and promoting a holistic approach to rehabilitation.
