The majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan hosted a day-long celebration of inclusivity called the ‘Purple Fest’ on February 26, 2024. This event, organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aimed to raise awareness about disabilities and promote the acceptance and inclusion of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) within society.
The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu graced the event with her presence. She witnessed the vibrant cultural performances by Divyangjan artists, showcasing their talents and creativity. Following the performances, the President interacted with the participants, further highlighting the importance of inclusivity and recognizing their contributions.
The ‘Purple Fest’ offered a variety of engaging activities for visitors of all ages and abilities. These included:
- Know Your Disabilities: This interactive section aimed to educate visitors about various disabilities and their impact on individuals.
- Purple Cafe: This provided a platform for Divyangjan entrepreneurs to showcase their products and promote their businesses.
- Purple Kaleidoscope: This vibrant zone offers a range of creative activities and entertainment options.
- Purple Live Experience Zone: This interactive space allowed visitors to experience different aspects of disability through simulations and demonstrations.
- Purple Sports: This section offered inclusive sporting activities, promoting physical activity and fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants.
The ‘Purple Fest’ witnessed a remarkable turnout, with over 14,000 people participating in the various activities and celebrating the spirit of inclusion. This event served as a significant platform to raise awareness, challenge societal perceptions, and promote the acceptance and integration of Divyangjan into all aspects of life.
