Delhi Minister Gopal Rai announced on Sunday that the INDIA bloc will hold a mega rally at Ramila Maidan on March 31 to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Rai criticized the treatment of AAP ministers and MLAs during Kejriwal’s arrest, stating, “None of our ministers and MLAs were allowed to meet Kejriwal during his arrest, and yesterday it was Shahidi Diwas we wanted to offer a tribute to Bhagat Singh, but there too we were treated like we are criminals.”
Arvind Kejriwal issued his first directive from ED custody, ordering the deployment of sufficient water tankers in areas facing water scarcity in Delhi. The directive, received late on Saturday, aims to strengthen water supply ahead of the approaching summer months. Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi conveyed Kejriwal’s concerns, stating that his directive demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of Delhiites despite his own circumstances.
Opposition leaders and parties expressed solidarity with Kejriwal and criticized his arrest. At a joint press conference, CPI(M) leader Rajiv Kunwar condemned the arrest as an assault on democracy. Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely announced support for the mega rally on March 31, emphasizing the need to defend democracy. AAP’s Gopal Rai accused the Prime Minister of attempting to undermine democracy and announced plans for the rally to protest Kejriwal’s arrest.
In response to Kejriwal’s arrest, legal maneuvers and protests are underway. Kejriwal moved the Delhi High Court against his arrest, describing it as “illegal” and seeking an urgent hearing. AAP supporters staged protests at ITO, denouncing Kejriwal’s arrest and alleging political motives. As the legal battle unfolds and political tensions rise, both AAP and BJP are engaged in strategic planning to navigate the fallout from Kejriwal’s arrest on Delhi’s political landscape.
