Coal India Limited (CIL) has joined forces with the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Mumbai and Sambalpur through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 1, 2024. This collaboration marks a significant step towards boosting coal transportation efficiency and aligns with the government’s ambitious PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for 2021.
This MoU brings together the industry expertise of Coal India with the academic excellence of the two IIMs. This powerful combination aims to achieve a transformative leap in logistics efficiency, ultimately contributing to both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
The MoU was signed by Shri Keshav Rao, Director (Personnel) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on behalf of Coal India, with Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari, Director of IIM-Mumbai, and Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM-Sambalpur. The ceremony took place in the presence of several dignitaries, including Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan; Coal India Chairman, Shri P. M. Prasad; and MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Shri Uday Anant Kaole.
As part of this initiative, a one-year postgraduate program titled “Logistics and Operations Excellence through Digitization” will be conducted specifically for executives working within Coal India and its subsidiaries, including MCL. This program aims to equip these executives with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize logistics operations and achieve greater efficiency in coal transportation.
