The final rites for gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari are scheduled for today, following a post-mortem examination conducted at Rani Durgavati Medical College, where his younger son Umar Ansari was present. His mortal remains arrived at his residence in Gazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, late on Friday night, with funeral arrangements underway today amidst heavy police presence.
Scheduled for Saturday morning, Mukhtar Ansari’s elder brother, Sibgatullah Ansari, confirmed the timing of the last rites, attributing a delay in receiving the body. He appealed for prayers for the departed.
Mukhtar Ansari, a former convict, passed away in a Banda hospital where he was serving time, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. Nevertheless, his family alleged potential foul play by the local administration, suggesting poisoning.
However, the post-mortem examination ruled out poisoning, identifying the cause of death as myocardial infarction, according to a senior hospital source overseeing the procedure.
Given the circumstances, a three-member team is poised to commence a magisterial inquiry into Mukhtar Ansari’s demise.Despite requests for the postmortem to be conducted at AIIMS in Delhi, which were declined, his son Umar Ansari expressed optimism for the investigation to address their concerns, stressing suspicions of foul play.
The family’s claim of inadequate treatment also surfaced, with Sibgatullah Ansari alleging negligence in his brother’s medical care.
