Anurag Thakur, a prominent figure in the Indian government, recently unveiled a series of impactful developments designed to comprehensively transform the transportation and infrastructure landscape of Himachal Pradesh. These initiatives, encompassing new railway connections, improved local connectivity, and significant investments in infrastructure projects, are poised to significantly enhance travel experiences, bolster religious tourism, and unlock economic potential within the state.
Devotees from Himachal Pradesh undertaking the sacred pilgrimage to Prayagraj, a revered confluence site, will no longer face the inconvenience of circuitous travel routes. The extension of the Indore-Chandigarh Express to Una eliminates the need for inconvenient transfers, offering a direct and seamless travel experience, thereby simplifying religious journeys and fostering spiritual connection.
Recent strides include the extension of the Una-Haridwar train service, the planned restoration of train services between Pathankot and Jogindernagar (facilitated by a new bridge over the Chakki River), and the upcoming track restoration between Kangra and Nurpur. These initiatives, coupled with the ongoing Una-Hamirpur railway line project, aim to create a more interconnected and efficient transportation network within the state, fostering easier travel between various regions and facilitating the movement of goods and services.
The government’s commitment to propelling Himachal Pradesh’s railway network towards modernity is evident in the substantial allocation of Rs. 1838 crore for railway expansion in the 2023-24 fiscal year. This investment, strategically directed towards critical rail lines like Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri, Chandigarh-Baddi, and Nangal-Talwara, showcases a long-term vision for enhanced connectivity and economic development in the region. Additionally, ongoing railway projects spanning 258 kilometres and valued at Rs. 19,556 crores further demonstrate the ongoing progress in infrastructure development.
Residents of Una are set to benefit from a multitude of infrastructure improvements, including:
- A new bridge over the Loharli Khad, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and improving traffic flow.
- The inauguration of the Daulatpur Chowk railway station, providing easier access to train services for residents in the vicinity.
- The electrification of the railway line up to Amb station, ensuring cleaner and more efficient train operations.
Furthermore, the expansion of the foot overbridge and Una railway station, along with the introduction of new train services and stoppages for existing ones, will significantly enhance passenger convenience and offer a wider range of travel options.
The long-awaited construction of the Una-Hamirpur railway line has finally been confirmed, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development. This project is anticipated to:
