Mukhtar Ansari, a former MLA in Uttar Pradesh and a convicted felon passed away on Thursday at Banda Medical College due to cardiac arrest. The BJP criticized the Opposition’s reaction to Ansari’s demise, cautioning against what they alleged were tactics of communal polarization.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a BJP leader, underscored the transformation of regions like Ghazipur, Mau, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, and Balia, formerly notorious for criminal activities, attributing this shift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts towards inclusive empowerment.
Sidharth Nath Singh, another BJP leader, chastised the Opposition for backing a criminal, stressing Ansari’s criminal history and the accusations against him.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into Ansari’s passing, citing concerns raised by Ansari’s family, who alleged foul play, suggesting he was subjected to “slow poison.”
Mayawati, president of the BSP, echoed the call for a high-level probe into Ansari’s death, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations and the necessity for transparency.
Ansari’s son, Umar Ansari, voiced suspicion regarding the circumstances of his father’s demise, alleging poisoning and pledging to pursue legal avenues for investigation.
In response to Ansari’s passing, the UP administration enforced Section 144 of the CrPC and heightened security in areas linked to Ansari’s influence, such as Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi.
