Nitin Gadkari has announced the impending end of the toll system in India, to be replaced by a satellite-based toll collection system. In December of the previous year, Gadkari revealed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) intended to implement this new system by March 2024.
According to Gadkari, under the new system, funds will be deducted directly from individuals’ bank accounts, with charges based on the distance travelled. Responding to concerns about high toll taxes, he emphasized the benefits of highways in terms of time and fuel savings. He highlighted the significant reduction in travel time from Mumbai to Pune, from 9 hours to just 2 hours.
