New Delhi, March 29, 2024 – The stage is set for a significant showdown at Ramlila Ground on March 31 as the INDIA bloc gears up to host a rally protesting the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate. Dubbed the ‘Maharally,’ the event will witness the presence of top leaders from 12 opposition parties, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi.
This gathering marks the first public meeting of the INDIA bloc leaders since the coalition’s inception on June 23 last year in Patna. Despite previous attempts falling through, such as the planned rally in Bhopal during the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, this rally signifies a unified effort from the opposition ranks.
Notable attendees include Trinamool Congress’s Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav. The Left will also be strongly represented, with General Secretaries from four left parties participating.
The event holds particular significance amidst heightened security measures in Central Delhi. AAP has secured the necessary permissions for the rally, expected to draw a crowd of over 20,000 attendees, amidst the backdrop of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. The decision on whether Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, will address the ‘Maharally’ will be made later.
