SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable energy subsidiary of SJVN, has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LOI) by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the implementation of a 200 MW Solar Project in GUVNL Phase–XXIII. The project was secured by SJVN Green Energy Limited through tariff-based competitive bidding, with a tariff rate of Rs. 2.66 per unit, on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis. The electronic reverse auction for the project was conducted by GUVNL on March 2, 2024.
Smt. Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, disclosed that the tentative construction and development cost for this project is estimated at Rs. 1,100 crores. The project site is located at the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) Solar Park in Khavda, situated in the Kachchh district of Gujarat. Upon the adoption of tariffs by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will be executed with GUVNL. The project is slated to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of signing the PPA.
The solar project is anticipated to generate approximately 508.40 million units of energy in its first year of operation, with a cumulative energy generation projected to reach about 11,698.16 million units over 25 years. Additionally, the commissioning of this project is forecasted to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 5,73,210 tonnes.
SJVN Limited, classified as a Mini Ratna-Category-I and Schedule-‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, began its journey on May 24, 1988, as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The company has diversified into various forms of energy including Hydro, Thermal, Wind, Solar, Power trading, and Transmission. Looking ahead, SJVN has set ambitious targets to achieve a Shared Vision of 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW installed capacity by 2040.
