Trinamool Congress (TMC) has disclosed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sustained ‘major injuries’ in an accident, as announced on the microblogging platform X. The TMC shared photographs depicting Banerjee lying in a hospital bed.
The images unveiled by TMC illustrate Mamata Banerjee with a significant gash on her forehead, accompanied by blood on her face. Reports suggest that the Chief Minister encountered the injuries at her residence before being transported to the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
TMC’s official statement on X reads, “Our chairperson Mamata Banerjee sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers,” although specific details regarding the circumstances of the incident remain pending.
According to sources within the party, TMC National General Secretary and Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee facilitated her admission to the hospital. In response, State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar conveyed his wishes for Banerjee’s prompt recovery, expressing solidarity and offering prayers for her well-being.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee’s previous stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has drawn attention, as she adamantly opposed its implementation in West Bengal, labelling it a “gimmick.” She urged citizens to refrain from applying for citizenship under the CAA, cautioning against potential categorization as “illegal migrants” and the subsequent loss of rights. Additionally, Banerjee linked the CAA with concerns surrounding the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticized Banerjee’s staunch opposition to the CAA, arguing that she fails to grasp the distinction between refugees and infiltrators. Shah emphasized the need to distinguish between Bengali Hindus who migrated from Bangladesh and accused Banerjee of perpetuating fear and division between Hindus and Muslims for political gain.
