The BJP has urged Misa Bharti to reconsider her name choice after her recent assertion that the opposition would imprison PM Modi if elected. Misa Bharti, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, sparked controversy with her statement regarding the INDIA bloc potentially incarcerating PM Modi and other BJP figures. While this comment surfaced days ago, it has since become a focal point in the ongoing political discourse between the BJP and RJD.
BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked, “Misa Bharti should reflect on the origins of her name. Lalu Prasad Yadav was detained under the MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) during the Congress regime. This act allowed for arbitrary arrests without recourse to legal intervention such as bail. In response, Lalu Yadav vowed to dismantle the Congress, hence naming his daughter Misa. Is Misa ji jesting about her father’s solemn oath? Perhaps a name change is in order.”
Vinod Tawade, BJP’s national general secretary, criticized Bharti’s statement as indicative of the opposition’s degraded campaign tactics. “They now resort to threats like ‘Modiji marega’ (Modi will die) and Misa ji suggesting Modiji will be jailed. However, the public is interested in knowing whether the corrupt will face justice,” Tawade asserted.
Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized Bharti’s familial entanglement in various scandals, suggesting her remarks trivialize democratic principles.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala noted that Lalu Prasad Yadav was neither imprisoned nor convicted during the BJP’s tenure, raising questions about Bharti’s narrative.
Misa Bharti’s remarks centered on allegations of Congress’s appeasement in their election manifesto and criticized the electoral bond system’s susceptibility to corruption. “While they accuse our family of corruption, they overlook the significant corruption involved in electoral bonds. Who will answer for that? If the public grants us a mandate, PM Modi and BJP leaders will face incarceration,” Bharti asserted.
