China has expressed its intention to enhance relations with the Maldives following the victory of President Mohamed Muizzu’s pro-Beijing party in the Maldives parliamentary elections. Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated that China is ready to work with the Maldives to maintain their traditional friendship and expand cooperation in various areas.
Beijing aims to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with the Maldives and accelerate the development of a community with a shared future for both nations, benefiting the people of both countries.
“We congratulate the Maldives on successfully holding its parliamentary election and fully respect the choice made by the Maldivian people,” Wang said.
