As part of its anti-corruption agenda, the Congress party pledged to conduct thorough investigations into what it labelled as “dubious deals and schemes.” It committed to scrutinizing the contentious events surrounding demonetisation, the Rafale deal, the Pegasus spyware scandal, and the Electoral Bonds scheme.
Asserting a perceived pattern of corruption under the BJP/NDA government over the past decade, the Congress manifesto asserted, “In the last 10 years, we have seen that several measures taken by the BJP/NDA government were a cloak for corruption.” It emphasized its determination to uncover any unlawful activities associated with these initiatives and ensure accountability under the law.
The manifesto further accused the BJP/NDA of allowing “known offenders” to flee the country during its tenure, suggesting that the ruling party facilitated their escape and neglected to repatriate them. It vowed to probe the circumstances surrounding their departure and ensure that all individuals involved in corruption and their collaborators face legal repercussions.
Referring to the BJP as a “giant washing machine” that purportedly shields individuals accused in registered cases by enabling them to evade justice after joining the party, the Congress promised to revive and thoroughly examine allegations against such individuals.
Additionally, the Congress manifesto criticized the BJP/NDA for allegedly leveraging its parliamentary majority to enact laws that it contends violate the principles of India’s Constitution. It pledged to rectify what it views as damage caused by the ruling party by reviewing and potentially reversing laws passed without proper parliamentary scrutiny and debate.
The Congress manifesto affirmed, “We will conduct comprehensive investigations into the Electoral Bonds Scam, the reckless sale of public assets, the PM CARES scam, repeated intelligence failures at the highest levels, and corruption in major defence deals,” outlining its commitment to addressing alleged instances of corruption and malfeasance.
