The Delhi court has dismissed Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for increased time with his legal team in jail, citing the misuse of the allocated time for non-legal activities.
Kejriwal, serving as Delhi Chief Minister, had requested permission for five weekly meetings with his legal advisors, a departure from the current allowance of two.
In its verdict, the court remarked, “It appears that the applicant is not even utilizing the permitted two legal interviews per week with his counsels solely for discussing his pending litigations. He has rather used the allotted time for purposes other than legal interviews.”
The court highlighted Kejriwal’s inability to demonstrate that he had been using the authorized legal meetings solely for discussing ongoing litigations with his legal team.
Additionally, the court cited a report from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealing Kejriwal’s issuance of directives to one of his lawyers during a legal meeting, whose identity he refused to disclose to the Investigating Agency.
Amidst these developments, AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged an investigation into Kejriwal’s communication with MLAs through his legal representatives from Tihar jail.
Singh claimed that after Kejriwal instructed AAP MLAs to address constituents’ issues, a warning was issued regarding the potential suspension of his meetings with lawyers and family members.
While Singh did not specify the individuals involved, he asserted that a planned meeting between himself, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Kejriwal in jail was canceled by prison authorities, despite the issuance of a token number for the meeting.
