The Delhi government, through its excise department, has issued an order detailing dry days in the national capital for April to June, in anticipation of both festivals and the 18th Lok Sabha polls.
The list provided by the Delhi government includes dry days covering religious festivals and other significant national occasions:
1. Id-ul-Fitr: April 11, 2024
2. Ram Navami: April 17, 2024
3. Mahavir Jayanti: April 21, 2024
4. Buddha Purnima: May 23, 2024
5. Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid): June 17, 2024
Additionally, during the Lok Sabha polls, the Delhi government has mandated dry days from 6:00 pm on April 24, 2024, to 6:00 pm on April 26, 2024, and a full-day dry day on June 4, 2024, which coincides with the counting day of the elections. The voting in Delhi is scheduled to occur in a single phase on May 25, with the vote count slated for June 4.
The excise department has underscored that licensees are not eligible for compensation for any alterations to the dry day schedule. Furthermore, it is obligatory for all licensees to prominently display this order in their licensed premises, and their establishments must remain closed on dry days.
The Delhi excise commissioner has been granted the authority to designate dry days for religious festivals and significant national commemorations.
