Delhi Police has summoned Revanth Reddy, the president of the Telangana unit of the Indian National Congress (INC), to appear on May 1 due to his involvement in circulating an edited video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Reddy has been asked to report to the police’s Cyber Unit with his mobile phone and other electronic devices that might have been used to share the fake video on social media.
In response to the summons, Reddy claimed that the police’s action was politically motivated and part of a strategy by Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah to manipulate elections. He stressed that his party would not be intimidated.
Meanwhile, one individual was arrested in Assam on Monday as part of the investigation into the case. Electronic devices were also seized from the suspect, identified as Reetom Singh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Congress, accusing the party of distributing a “deep fake and morphed” video of Amit Shah to disrupt the election process. The BJP delegation has called on the Election Commission to take strict action against Congress for spreading misinformation and creating confusion among voters.
