Dharmapuri recorded the highest voter turnout in Tamil Nadu during the 2024 general election, with an 81.48% participation rate according to the Election Commission. In contrast, Chennai Central, the state’s smallest constituency, had the lowest turnout at 53.91%, while Chennai South recorded a voter turnout of 54.27%.
Despite Dharmapuri’s high turnout, Tamil Nadu’s overall voting percentage stood at 69.46% as of April 20, marking a decline of nearly three percentage points from the 72.47% seen in 2019. Initial reports showed a higher turnout of 72.9% at 7 p.m. on April 19, but this figure was revised as more accurate data became available later that night.
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo explained that adjustments were made as data from Assistant Returning Officers and polling stations were compiled. He also mentioned that some areas, such as Thoothukudi, updated their data later, impacting the overall percentage.
