The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, has issued guidelines for the implementation of the R&D Scheme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The R&D scheme aims to enhance the affordability of producing, storing, transporting, and utilizing green hydrogen. It also focuses on improving the efficiency, safety, and reliability of processes and technologies in the green hydrogen value chain.
Additionally, the scheme aims to foster partnerships among industry, academia, and government to establish an innovation ecosystem for green hydrogen technologies. It will support the scaling up and commercialization of green hydrogen technologies by providing necessary policy and regulatory support. The R&D Scheme, outlined in the guidelines issued on 15th March 2024, has a total budgetary allocation of Rs. 400 crores until the financial year 2025-26.
The R&D program covers all aspects of the green hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, compression, transportation, and utilization. Projects under the mission will be goal-oriented, time-bound, and scalable. Innovative MSMEs and startups working on indigenous technology development will also be encouraged under the scheme.
Following the issuance of guidelines, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy released a Call for Proposals on 16th March 2024. While the response to the call has been encouraging, some stakeholders have requested more time for proposal submission. In response to these requests and to allow institutions sufficient time to submit high-quality proposals, the deadline for submission has been extended to 27th April 2024.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched on 4th January 2023, with an initial outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores until the financial year 2029-30.
