The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC), a paramount advisory body on archival affairs, serving as a nationwide platform for creators, custodians, and users of records to counsel the Government of India on record management and their utilization for historical exploration, has adopted a fresh logo and motto.
Established in 1919, IHRC, led by the Union Minister of Culture, embarked on an online competition in 2023 through the MyGov portal to solicit designs for its logo and motto. A total of 436 entries were received.
The winning entry for both the logo and motto, submitted by Shri Shaurya Pratap Singh from Delhi, encapsulates the essence and distinctiveness of IHRC comprehensively. The logo, characterized by pages resembling lotus petals, symbolizes IHRC’s resilience as the central institution for preserving historical records. The Sarnath pillar at the center signifies India’s illustrious past, with brown chosen as the color theme to underscore the organization’s commitment to preserving, studying, and honoring India’s historical records.
The motto, “Where history is preserved for the future,” holds profound significance for IHRC and its endeavors. The Commission plays a pivotal role in identifying, collecting, cataloging, and maintaining historical documents and manuscripts, ensuring that valuable historical knowledge is conserved for future generations. The motto epitomizes IHRC’s dedication to safeguarding historical documents and making them accessible for the benefit of present and future generations.
