Iran has issued a stern warning to the US, advising against entanglement in potential conflicts with Israel following a suspected consulate attack in Syria. Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, urged the US to avoid what he described as a trap set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Step so that you don’t get hit,” emphasized Jamshidi.
The US is presently on high alert, preparing for what it anticipates as a “significant” response from Iran targeting Israeli or American interests in the region. Tensions escalated following an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in the deaths of at least seven Iranians, including two generals. This incident marked the first attack on an Iranian diplomatic establishment by Israel in Syria.
In reaction, Israel heightened its state of readiness, cancelling home leave for combat troops, mobilizing reserves, and reinforcing air defences. The military also took measures to disrupt GPS signals over Tel Aviv to counter potential threats from drones or missiles.
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, acknowledged Iran’s impending response but asserted that his group would not interfere in such decisions. Nasrallah highlighted the coordinated efforts of Iran’s resistance groups in the region, emphasizing Hezbollah’s readiness for any confrontation with Israel. Despite ongoing tensions, Hezbollah has refrained from using its primary arsenal in recent border skirmishes with Israel, indicating a calculated approach to the situation.
