Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the national convenor of AAP has filed a petition with the Rouse Avenue court seeking to increase the number of legal meetings he can attend per week. He is aiming to raise the current allowance of two meetings to five, citing the significant legal workload stemming from multiple FIRs filed against him in various states.
Kejriwal’s petition highlights the importance of accommodating his legal responsibilities while he faces charges in multiple jurisdictions. The court has requested responses from both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the authorities at Tihar Jail regarding this request.
In a message conveyed by his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal urged all party MLAs to actively address the concerns of the people of Delhi and work towards resolving them. He emphasised that his incarceration should not impede governance.
Meanwhile, officials at Tihar Jail have stated that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann can meet Kejriwal under regular visitor protocols, utilising the ‘mulakat jangla’ facility. Despite Mann’s request for an in-person meeting inside the prison, interactions will take place through an iron mesh due to security considerations.
Currently housed in jail number 2, Kejriwal has specified five individuals, including his wife, children, personal secretary, and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, whom he is permitted to meet in jail. He will need to add Mann’s name to this list by jail protocols.
