In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections across 21 states and Union Territories for 102 parliamentary seats, Tripura witnessed the highest voter turnout at 80.17%. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed satisfaction with the voter response, highlighting the excellent feedback for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), indicating widespread support. The estimated overall voter turnout stood at 63.89% by 9:00 PM on April 19, with final figures awaited from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Voting, which commenced at 7 AM and concluded at 6 PM, saw participation from various states and Union Territories. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA aims for a third consecutive term under PM Modi’s leadership, targeting 400 out of 543 seats. The opposition, led by the Congress under the banner of INDIA bloc, presents a challenge.
Despite challenges like a heat wave, the Election Commission noted a high voter turnout nationwide. However, incidents of violence were reported in parts of West Bengal and Manipur.
