The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have forged a collaborative partnership for biomedical research and training, as announced on April 23, 2024. This memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized through the signing ceremony attended by Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary of the Department of Health Research & Director General of ICMR, and Lieutenant General Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services.
The primary objective of this MoU is to facilitate joint efforts in addressing multidisciplinary scientific, technological, and educational challenges relevant to both the nation and the Armed Forces. Specifically, the collaboration aims to focus on health research concerning High Altitude, Battle-related trauma/Post-traumatic stress disorder, Aerospace medicine, Infectious diseases, and other health issues encountered by Armed Forces Personnel.
In addition to research endeavors, the partnership will also encompass various joint academic activities. Notably, it will offer AFMS officers the opportunity to pursue PhD studies through the ICMR-AcSIR PhD program. This collaborative initiative marks a significant step forward in advancing healthcare solutions tailored to the needs of the Armed Forces.
