India’s Largest Climate Clock Unveiled at CSIR Headquarters to Commemorate Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) inaugurated India’s largest Climate Clock at the CSIR Headquarters in Rafi Marg, New Delhi. This initiative underscores CSIR’s commitment to raising awareness about climate change and its adverse impacts.
During the event, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki from IIT Bombay and Founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation emphasized the urgent need for energy literacy among citizens. He stressed the importance of individuals taking proactive measures to reduce energy consumption.
Dr. Shailesh Nayak, former Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Science and Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, delivered the CSIR AMRIT Lecture on “Unveiling the Secrets of Triggered Earthquakes: The Lighthouse Project of Scientific Drilling in Koyna.” The CSIR Accelerating Modern Research, Innovations, and Technologies (AMRIT) Lecture Series aims to draw insights from India’s top S&T leaders to guide R&D initiatives, including those of CSIR.
Addressing the audience, Dr. N Kalaiselvi, DG-CSIR, emphasized the significance of Earth Day as a call to safeguard the environment. She highlighted that through the CSIR-Energy Swaraj Foundation MoU, numerous scientists and staff within CSIR have received Energy Literacy Training, with Climate Clocks from the Foundation installed across many CSIR labs.
