Ms. Sheyphali B. Sharan has assumed the role of Principal Director General at the Press Information Bureau, succeeding Shri Manish Desai, who retired yesterday. Ms. Sharan, an officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Information Service, brings with her a wealth of experience.
Throughout her illustrious career spanning over three decades, Ms Sharan has held various significant roles, primarily focusing on media publicity work for Ministries such as Finance, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as a Press Information Bureau officer. Additionally, she has served as the Spokesperson for the Election Commission of India.
Ms Sharan has also made notable contributions to the Central Staffing Scheme Deputations, serving as Director in the Ministry of Health (Department of Traditional Systems of Medicine/AYUSH from 2002 to 2007) and the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs from 2013 to 2017). Furthermore, she has held cadre positions such as OSD (Information Policy at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting from 2000 to 2002) and Director of Administration and Finance at LSTV, Lok Sabha Secretariat, from 2007 to 2008.
Upon assuming her new role, Ms. Sharan was warmly welcomed by senior officials of the Press Information Bureau.
