Shashi Tharoor criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks accusing the Congress party of redistributing wealth to Muslims and infiltrators, calling the comments a “nakedly communal appeal.” Tharoor, who is running for a Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, suggested the Election Commission should disallow and reprimand Modi for making such statements.
Tharoor expressed his disappointment in Modi’s speech, highlighting that the Congress party had been accused of ruling India for 65 years without taking people’s wealth and giving it to Muslims. He questioned how the Prime Minister could make such claims.
During an election rally in Rajasthan, Modi alleged that Congress plans to redistribute gold and hard-earned money to infiltrators and those with more children. He asked the crowd whether it was acceptable for Congress to take their hard-earned property, referring to a previous statement that Muslims have the first right to the country’s assets.
In response, Congress stated that its manifesto does not include any redistribution plans and instead supports a comprehensive socio-economic caste census.
