Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded to criticism from opposition parties regarding electoral bonds, suggesting that they will eventually regret their stance. He emphasized that while there may be flaws in the scheme, they can be addressed.
During an interview with Thanthi TV ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi highlighted the lack of transparency in election funding before 2014, contrasting it with the current scenario where details are publicly available due to electoral bonds. These bonds, labeled as “India’s biggest scam” by the opposition, have facilitated transparency in political funding.
Asserting his stance, PM Modi questioned if any agency could provide data on pre-2014 election expenditures. He defended the electoral bond system, stating that it allows tracking of money flow and facilitates accountability. While acknowledging potential shortcomings, he expressed confidence in rectifying them.
The electoral bond system, introduced in 2018 by the Modi-led NDA government, serves as a mechanism for individuals and corporate entities to financially support political parties. Implemented to reform political funding, it aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
