Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for inviting him to the G7 summit, which is scheduled to take place in Italy from June 13 to 15. Modi spoke with Meloni on Thursday to extend greetings on Italy’s Liberation Day and to discuss the summit, as well as plans to further #G20India outcomes at the G7. He reaffirmed his commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The two leaders confirmed their dedication to strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The G7 Summit will be held in Apulia, Italy, shortly after the results of the Indian Lok Sabha elections are announced on June 4. The Group of Seven comprises Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union is represented by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
India’s external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that India has received an invitation to the G7 summit and said that more details will be shared in due course.
Italy took on the G7 Presidency on January 1, 2024, and will hold the position until December 31, 2024. During this period, Italy will host a variety of technical meetings and institutional events across the country.
